IDENTIFICATION

Amongst adults, their balding head is light grey in colour with bluish folds of skin and dark markings around the irises. In juveniles, the head is covered with brown down. The beak is brown-black. The transition with the body is marked by a collar of dark brown feathers around the neck. The body plumage is entirely dark brown, with light grey legs. Juveniles are even darker, only lightening and reaching their adult plumage at the age of 6.

HABITAT

The Cinereous vulture can live on plains, plateaux or wooded mountains, wherever it is likely to find good food resources, herds of wild or domestic ungulates. However, they are particularly fond of hillsides, steep cliffs and rocky crevices, which provide good nesting conditions.
